Evaluation 1 - What ways does our media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products

The first of the 8 pictures shows our production logo which is the starting frame of our film opening, we put this here to show what our film company is. This film company logo shows a cinema as our films are high quality and will be shown in a cinema and the 'tomorrow' connotes  that it is a production company for the next generation and will hep appeal to the younger generation which is our target audience.

The second shows an example of the range of fonts and the special effects that we used, the font used here was different to the rest of the fonts throughout the opening, this relates to other films of out genre because it is a creative way of putting titles on a screen which would usually be put there to keep the audience entertained

The third picture shows our title, it is multi coloured to capture the audiences attention which is like other teen angst films such as juno, the font is also sans serif to show that the film is not that serious and a little it more light hearted, this is again used in other teen angst film.

The forth picture shows the setting for the majority of the film being in a school environment, this runs along with many other teen angst films such a the edge of seventeen and angus, thongs and perfect snogging.

The fifth picture shows that we used colourful writing to show who, directed and produced the film etc. We did this to keep the audience intrested and got the idea from other fiolms that also used colourful fonts such as juno.

The large sans serif font introducing the characters show in the 6th picture is a easy way of introducing characters and is also slightly humorous with the nickname at the end of it. This wasnt in any teen angst films we watched but the writting on screen has been used by films such as scott pilgrim vs the world which can be seen as a teen film.

The longshot of the main characters is to show that they are interested in sports, we got this idea from films like angus thongs and perfect snogging as it shows that the boys in the film are interested in football and hence are more athletic.

The last picture shows a fade to black, this is humorous because the audience knows what is going to happen but it fades to black before it happens.

Evaluation 5 - How we address/attract our audience

This is the link to a subtitled video showing how different parts of out teen angst film opening address and attract our target audience

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-XJIdTAfj4

Evaluation 7 - What we learnt and how we used it

  Skill/knowledge/application
Preliminary task
Feature film opening
  Camera
Using a range of camera shots
Using different camera angles, for        what effect?
Using camera movement (pan, zoom, tracking) for different purposes
In the preliminary task we didn't use much of a range of shot types with the majority being mid shots or close ups. We didn't use almost any movement and there was not much use of angles
During the actual feature film opening we used a much wider range with long shots and extreme long shots, we also used some more movements such as a pan. We also used angles more effectively such as when Aiden is walking down the hall.
Framing (what is in and out of the        shots)
Not much attention was paid to what was being included in the shots throughout the video
we ensured that everything in the shot was meant to be there and nothing out of the ordinary was in the back ground at any point
Mise en scene
Lighting
Costume
Props
Settings
In our preliminary task not much thought went into any of the factors of Mise en Scene as there was no props involved, this setting did not go to well with the scene and the costumes were also not fitting the scene.
Much more planning was put into things such as the costumes which all fit our teen angst genre, as did the props such as the football which is something asocciated with teenage boys. As well as the settings being majorly in a school which again is stereotypical for teen angst
  Mode of address
Way actors speak, words and        sentence structure
Gestures
Not many words were used during the preliminary task so there is not much variation in voices or use of gestures
We used 2 different narrations over our opening with one sounding more depressed and the other slightly more upbeat. Much longer sentences were used compared to our preliminary task
  Editing
  180 rule
  Match on action
  Shot reverse shot
  Cross cutting
  Jump cut

  Juxtaposition

  Transitions

  Sequencing
  effects
Again not much editing was used during the preliminary task, the only main ones used was the 180 rule to ensure that the audience did not feel disorientated and the shot reverse shot to show each person speaking. There was no use of transitions throughout as the whole scene was extremely short.
During the actual film opening we used many more types of editing, for example we used many more transitions such as a crossfade to show the passing of time. We also used shot reverse shot to show the ball about to hit kate, this also used the 180 rule so the audience knew what was going on. Alot more sequencing was also used to ensure the whole opening made sense.
  Use of titles
  Size
  Font
  Positioning
  transitions
Almost no titles were used during our preliminary task due to it being so short
We used a much wider range of titles during the opening such as for the main title which says 'Opposites' we used the colours red and blue to connote the two opposite ends of a magnet. We also used a lot of different colours as well as font sizes to catch our target audiences attention.

Evaluation 3 - Media Institution etc

Production Company Logo:

Our production company is called Tomorrow Productions. We chose this because our target audience is the younger generation who are always looking into the future rather than older people, who would be doing the opposite and looking at the past. The word 'Tomorrow' shows this.

Which film distributor would you choose for your film and why?:

The film distributor we would use is STX Entertainment. This is because they have distributed other films that are similar to our genre of teen angst such as 'The Edge Of 17' and 'The Space Between Us'. They are a smaller, less known company that usually distributes films that do not have the much larger budgets. This works with our film opening as it also a lower budget film

How our film will be funded:

We will use the BFI film fund to fund our movie, A part of this fund is the UK film council - they are known for funding British independent films that use a lower budget and we feel like this would be the best way to fund our film. One of the films that they have funded is Kidulthood, which is the same genre as our film. This show that they have experience with films like ours and will probably be more likely to fund it.

Titles and how we have presented them:

In our opening sequence we have presented our titles in many different ways. Most of them are at the start of the video, this is to show the audience the characters and who is involved with the film, it also shows what people did and what the title of the film was. We put them in places such as around the steering wheel of a car, on the cars number plate and next to the characters on a freeze frame when they are introduced.

Unique Selling Point:

Our USP is that we have a male lead role, this is a countertype to the typical teen angst main characters as it would usually be a female lead such as in 'Easy A'

Marketing Material:

Our main marketing technique would be the use of social media, such as Facebook and Twitter. This is because it is usually free if not very cheap and our target audience are the majority users of these websites as they are teenagers.. Facebook has 620 million active users per month, and twitter has 105 million active users per month. These are the two biggest social media websites, we would upload trailers, information and other bonus content

Evaluation 2 - How our media product represents social groups

One of the social groups that our teen angst film represents is the more popular males in school, this is done through the main character being Aiden. He is represented as being popular mostly through the way that he is dressed, wearing fashionable clothes and seeming to care about his appearance, as well as what sort of hobbies and sports that he is into, being football. This can be compared to a character in the film  'The Edge of Seventeen' who is called Darian, He is the stereotypical athletic male character in this film. He is similar to Aiden through aspects such as the way they are both dressed with both of them wearing hoodies, dark blue jeans and a bag due to both films being mainly set in a school. They are also both into sports with Darian playing American Football due to that being the dominant sport in America and Aiden playing football for the same reason in England. The only major difference between the two characters is their ethnicity, Darian is Caucasian whereas Aiden is from Pakistani descent, this is also one of the only countertypes in our film. They are also roughly the same age being at the higher levels of education.

Another social group represented in our teen angst opening is the more unpopular females in school, this is shown through the other main character Kate, she is very similar to the main character of 'The Edge of Seventeen' Nadine. One of these many similarities is the way they look and dress, both of them have dark brown hair and are white and their clothing could be seen as slightly less fashionable compared to the popular characters in both movies. Another similarity that they share is that they are both very pessimistic about life and don't think they are very important. This is shown in our teen angst film by the narration by Kate when she is introducing herself. In 'The Edge of Seventeen' Nadine only has one friend, this is another similarity between the two characters.

Evaluation 6 - Evaluation Of Technologies

The Hardware -
Image result for red hd video camcordersThe main piece of media technology that we used was the computers, this is because it had all of the software and online tools to help us such as premiere to edit and websites to get non copyrighted music. We also used a HD video camera as it is very compact and easy to set up and record as well as transfer the video files over to the computer ready to edit. Another physical thing we used was a tripod, this ensured that the shots would be consistently steady and professional. We also used a small voice recorder to record the voiceovers for the intro, this was useful as it meant we could transfer the files over to the computer to be edited very easily and efficiently.

The Software -
Our main software that we used was premiere, this was because we used this to edit the video, the music and the titles all together. Some of the things I learnt on this editing software was how to do freeze frames and how to speed up or slow down a clip. This came in useful for our movie intro as there is parts where we used freeze frames to show individual characters. I also learnt how to zoom in to different parts of a clip. We also used this for transitions such as when we faded to black to show the passing of time. Another software we used was PowerPoint this was to show and share our ideas for our film intro with our peers to get feedback and improve upon it. We also used PowerPoint to create our production logo and is was very simple. I also used Sony Vegas Pro 12 to edit the subtitles into Evaluation 5, I learnt to do this via youtube. This program is shown in the screenshot below.

The Online Tools -
We used many online tools and websites to help us produce our film and show our progress and production with blogger being the main one for showing our progress being blogger. This was a good way of recording our progress and planning as it was easy to create new posts and didn't have the risks of losing papers and folders of coursework. We also used outlook email to communicate and send over planning, music, research and other ideas this was again very successful as it saved a lot of time. We used YouTube's creator space to get our music as it showed whether it was copyright free and able to use. Another way we used YouTube  was to upload our drafts to get audience feedback so we could improve, we also used YouTube to look a other teen angst openings. We also used social media such as Facebook messenger to communicate with each other so we knew what we were doing and who was doing what.
